Mei-Lan Tan is an architect and designer whose work spans architecture, interiors, & objects.
She is the founder of UMÉ STUDIO, an architecture, interiors, and landscape practice, and UMÉ, its object-focused counterpart―both are dedicated to blurring the boundaries between art, craft, and experience. Recognized as a recent Forbes 30 under 30 honoree in the Arts and Style category, she also served as a Lecturer at UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design.
Her current portfolio includes high-concept hospitality projects—spas, hotels, and wineries.
Previously, Mei-Lan was a part of Herzog & de Meuron in Basel, Switzerland. She holds a degree with highest honors from Cornell University, where she was awarded the prestigious Bernhardt Prize. Her independent works have been published in Architectural Digest, Vogue, Dwell, Surface Magazine, Dezeen, Forbes, Bloomberg, Domus, and T Magazine. Her works have been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Milan, London, and Paris.
